Frequently Asked Questions
What is permanent jewelry?
Permanent jewelry offers a distinctive and lasting way to wear your favorite pieces with deeper significance. Unlike traditional jewelry that relies on clasps, permanent jewelry is custom-fitted and skillfully welded together onto your wrist, ankle, or neck, creating a seamless and secure connection for continuous wear.
Do you offer different styles or custom pieces?
YES! We have a large selection of chains offering different styles as well as dangle and connector charms to add a bit of personalization and flair.
How does it work?
Select a chain style - gold filled, rose gold (filled), sterling silver or enamel
Add your charm of choice - naked chains are welcome too!
Pick your perfect spot - bracelet, necklace, or anklet
Designed to fit & measured to your tightness liking
Your piece is then welded for keeps
How do you care for permanent jewelry once applied?
Clean regularly with a soft cloth and mild soap. A clean eyelash/ mascara spoolie will help reach the small crevices between the links.
If the chain stretches with wear over time, contact Hold Fast to have resized.
If you need to remove it, cut at the jump ring with a pair of household scissors.
Further details per type of metal are listed at the bottom of the FAQ page.
Will you link minors?
You bet! We love a matching set with mama, dad or the fun auntie/uncle. However, signing a release waiver is required for applying a permanent jewelry piece to a minor.
Permanent jewelry on a minor will be cheaper than standard pricing.
Do you offer returns or refunds? What if I live outside of the KC metro?
ALL SALES ARE FINAL - NO REFUNDS WILL BE OFFERED.
However, rewelds at the ring (where HF completed the welding) are free, should they break**.
Should your piece require a reweld, you must share a photo of the chain and keep the chain with you until we can get you in for a reweld.
If the chain breaks at a link and not the welded ring, HF can re-connect the chain by use of a welded ring for $10.
This is also a great opportunity to add a charm, and you essentially have a brand-new custom piece!
Do you do private events? What are the requirements?
There is no travel fee required if you are within the greater Kansas City Metro.
Please contact HF directly via email or the contact form to receive a travel quote.
Requirements:
A minimum of 10 chained-pieces purchases - this does not necessarily equate to 10 people
If a minimum of 10 chained-pieces is not met, the host will pay the piece-count remainder at the gold-filled bracelet rate.
Example:
5 event-attendees each get 2 separate chained pieces - this meets the requirement
5 event-attendees each get 1 chained piece - this does not meet the requirement and the host would pay the cost of 5 additional bracelets.
A contract with the above details will be signed by the host and the welder.
What is the difference between the metals Hold Fast offers?
Gold Filled
Gold-filled jewelry has a thick layer of gold bonded to a base metal, making it durable and tarnish-resistant.
With around 5% gold by weight, it offers a high-quality look and longevity at a more affordable price than solid gold.
Typically safe for sensitive skin, as the outer layer is real gold, reducing the risk of irritation compared to gold-plated jewelry.
These specifics apply to rose gold pieces as well.
Sterling Silver
Made of approximately 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, typically copper, to increase strength and durability.
Stronger than pure silver due to the alloy, but still softer than other metals like gold or platinum.
Sterling silver is hypoallergenic, making it a great option for sensitive skin.
Enamel
Enamel adds vivid, glassy, and opaque or translucent color to either gold (filled or solid) or sterling silver jewelry, creating eye-catching designs.
Though delicate in appearance, enamel is highly durable.
There is a risk of eventual chipping or cracking of the enamel over time.
Also safe for sensitive skin due to the sterling silver or gold-filled base.
Gold Plated
Gold-plated jewelry has a thin layer of gold electroplated onto a base metal. This process creates a shiny finish but will wear off over time, especially with frequent use.
The only items HF offers that will be gold-plated are charms. The quality of gold-plated jewelry needs to be reviewed when considering a permanent jewelry piece.
